Fireworks of Ryukyu
Fireworks in Ryukyu Kingdom were not only “Karakuri Fireworks". There were also “Tebana,” which were hand-held fireworks that produced sparks, and “Hi-go,” which were launched fireworks, and there were daytime fireworks and nighttime fireworks.
The name of each of these fireworks is recorded in the “Hibanahou Nikki”, but there is no record of what kind of fireworks they were. Since similar names are found in fireworks in mainland Japan of the same period, they may have been roughly equivalent in technology. However, it is written in “Hibanahou Nikki” that the fireworks of Ryukyu Kingdom were learned from China.
